light shines \\ thoughts + process
In December, some of the artists and designers at Bridgeway Church were asked to create artwork inspired by different scriptures surrounding the season of Advent. If you're not familiar with Advent, it is a season of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the coming of Christ (Christmas).
The verse I was given was John 1:5
The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
This type of work is always difficult for me. Where do I start? How do I create an image of light shining in the darkness that isn't cliche or overused? As I began thinking about the verse, I had this thought of being overcome by a cloud of white light. I started to play around with this imagery and noticed something interesting was happening: the juxtaposition of geometric and organic shapes. Clouds and arrows. Light and Dark. Good and Evil. I went with this idea, adding the Oklahoma City skyline and faded text to create, what is hopefully, an inspiring and engaging visual to accompany the season of advent.
